Berlin - Day 1

I just got home after spending the weekend in Berlin! Have I mentioned how lucky of a girl I am? I'm a lucky girl!

Dale had a meeting at the Max Born Institute today so we decided to make a weekend trip out of it. We flew on discount carrier German Wings on Friday.
They are just another no frills and cheap carrier but they fly direct Stockholm - Berlin and were the cheapest so no complaints. We took the train to our hotel, checked in and then we were off to walk around the city and find some of that famous German beer, sausages, and bread (in any order). It didn't take long to find all three in one location and none of them disappointed!
That's a happy Dale!

Berlin is home to 3.4 million people but it feels much larger than that. One of the first things I noticed was how there were apartment buildings with small pieced-together homes, if you will, right next door and in the middle of the city. It was interesting to see the stark contrast.
We made our way to Museum Island but it was right at closing time so we didn't get to go in to any of them. We had a great time walking through the city and looking at the buildings. The bombings during World War II destroyed a lot of the city but some buildings have been rebuilt to look like the original buildings. Even so, there is an eclectic architectural mix in Berlin from the bombings, rebuilding, devision and reunification, as you somewhat tell from the photos above and below which were taken with a decent walking distance between them.
It was very interesting to walk around and take it all in. Next we decided to rest our weary legs, make a plan for day 2, and enjoy more of that delicious German beer, well Dale did while I enjoyed some of the delicious German wine! And we headed back to the hotel via subway, I love the subway!

Love Always,
Matilda
